A girl who is in one of my writing groups just changed her avatar to a picture that says “I support Chick-Fil-A”.  And I had already known that we had different opinions on most things, but it’s making me uncomfortable.  I am okay with her having her own opinions on things, this isn’t about that.  What it’s about is that the group we are a part of spans across the world, with people everywhere, though many of us are in the U.S.  But politics are just a thing we actively avoid— we are there to be teen writers who have found our own little world where we can feel safe, and discuss writing and fandoms, and the girl problems of our founder.  But she didn’t just quietly change her avatar— she did it publicly, saying, “Look!  I changed my avatar!” and drew attention to it.  I’m just praying that no one who doesn’t support Chick-Fil-A will take up the argument.
